Take Hold of Life
1Timothy 6:3-16
Phillippians 4:11-13 gold standard for contentment

Contentment-it is what we want and what we want for the people God puts in our
lives. Something in relationships happens that makes life better. First with our God
then with the people in our lives. Contentment is part of the relationship blessing
we give and receive.
It's not about getting people to do what we want them to do: it's to make them
whole, to complete each other. (Genesis).

It's about getting whole so you can do the right thing. God has put the people in
your life so you can build relationships and encourage them to be whole and

Contentment does not necessarily come from leading. Any time you lead, there
are going to be conflict and challenges. Sometimes those conflicts can suck the joy
out of your lives. 1500 pastors a month leave the ministry due to moral failure,
spiritual discouragement. 50% of ministers marriages end in marriage. 80% of
ministers leave the ministry in the first 5 years. (Recheck statistics)

Every Christian is called to leadership.

3. It's a matter of letting go and taking hold. Verse11.
Flee from all of this (whatever is sucking the life out of you: false doctrine, an unhealthy
interest in controversy and harsh words, arguing doesn't produce contentment even if you are right,
the love of money.) and pursue (what will make you content) righteousness,
godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness. The reward is peace.

V12. Fight the good fight of faith, take hold of eternal life v19. So that they may
take hold of life that is truly life. Carpe aionion (seize eternal life).
